HELLO!!!!!!!!! a big stick in my craw has been that i have had like 3 VPSes running random silly shit on digital ocean and google cloud and every month when i get my little credit card charges i think "ahhhh boy this month's the month. im gonna do it this time. im gonna get out of 'the cloud'" but ive never done it. until now.....

i picked up a few cheap little business surplus thin client pcs off ebay a while back. they have like, decade old, quad core pentium silvers (whatever the fuck that is), 128gb lousy little ssds, and 8gb of ram in them. i picked them up for like $60 AUD each which is really not bad. i think that's like $40 USD? a similar spec vm on google cloud would cost that per month easily. hell with that, get a gigabit switch, put debian on those suckers and throw em in the back of the cabinet and you're off to the races. of course what this shit doesn't have is like, redundancy or hourly backups or whatever. but nothing i'm running is important so who cares!!!!! and these bastards use like 4 watts each. it's so little money im almost making money.

part of it also is that i feel nice about keeping some fuckin ewaste out of the ground. i used to work at an ewaste recycling place in the south and it's nasty business. i once opened a computer that was on my lap and fetid cat pee spilled out all over me. i will write about that someday.

this has been a nice little project to do to keep busy while the world goes to fuckin shit i'll tell you that much!!!
